The Trainsmash is a good dry fly for fast water. The fly incorporates a soft hackle to offer some life to the fly while the bulk keeps the fly buoyant in turbulence. A periodic shake in silica powder floatant keeps the flies floating. Good when Caddis or moths are about on small streams.Sometimes you want a small pattern to go deep.

Styled from H.C Cutcliffe’s 1860’s book, the idea of cock hackles for wets seems counter intuitive but really works. A good alternative to soft hackle wet flies. Fish these with an upstream technique: letting them stay wet and sit just under the surface.
